On the Sundays of midwinter there will be four contemplative candlelit services to mark Matariki.

Matariki is the Maori name of the star cluster Pleiades, and the season during which the cluster is hidden from view. Matariki’s re-emergence heralds the Maori New Year. The season is a time to remember the dead, celebrate midwinter and give thanks for Creation and our families.

June 20 Remembering the departed
June 27 Midwinter/Nativity of John the Baptist
July 4 Thanksgiving for Creation
July 11 From generation to generation-thanksgiving for whakapapa

Services start at 8pm and are followed by mulled wine and supper in the back hall. Everyone is welcome, nau mai, haere mai, tauti mai.
